One of the great parts about our volunteer schedule (three days at Bapaphumele, three days in Obs) is that we really get a chance to experience Cape Town. This includes getting to visit the chic Neighbourgoods Markets at the Old Biscuit Mill, held every Saturday and a popular day out for the locals (or the white locals, anyway). This morning we went with some of our friends and had lunch. I enjoyed a gyro while Jeff, the meat-eating adventurer that he is, tried a kudu burger. For those wondering what in the world a
kudu is, it's a close relative to the antelope... delicious! (or at least that's what Jeff would say.) We bought some double chocolate cookies for dessert with the intention of having some for lunch and then the rest for dinner, but of course none of them made it out of the market.
One of the best things about Cape Town, is that no matter where you go, there will always be a beautiful mountain view
It probably goes without saying that the entire time we were there I was thinking about how much fun it would be to bring Litha. I think I'm going to need counseling when we get home.
My kind of day! It just feels right to do something like this on a Saturday. Mountains in the background and colorful scenery add a lot to the outing as well. The only thing missing is a picture of you two in these surroundings. There wasn't even a picture of either of you.
ReplyDeleteWe left kind of quickly and I didn't even have time to wash my face. Also, one of the guys making the gyros had a container of sauce explode in his hand and a lot of it went all over me, so I didn't really feel like having my picture taken :-( sorry.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised you got splashed with someone else's sauce? Now, that would have been a delightful picture to add to this post. Couldn't Jeffrey have taken that fetching picture of you? I mean, what kind of hurry could you have been in that prevented you to have taken a one-second picture? Still love you lots! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat. Kudu to U 2. Glad you arer having a great time. What do they put on the Kudu Burger?
ReplyDeleteSee you soon.
I looked at these over the weekend on my Blackberry, and sometimes it lets me post and sometimes it does not, this weekend it did not. I am a sucker for markets like this, I could almost smell the produce, loved every minute of it. Kudu burger well maybe not so much
ReplyDeleteThe burger had rocket, tomato, cucumber, tzatziki and a chili spread. Very tasty. That same stand also had ostrich burger.
