The Volcano Finally Emerges

Today is the first day we've been able to see Villarica Volcano from town.  The peak is still shrouded in clouds, which is why our climb was canceled, but something is better than nothing.  We're crossing our fingers that it stays clear on Wednesday.

  1. OOOoo, the excitement is building up (no pun intended at all - I want this volcano to stay very dormant)! Does this town remind you of Banff at all? I know one of the pictures you posted on your Pucon blog is reminiscent of downtown Banff. My fingers are crossed for splendid weather on Wednesday.

  2. Banff never really came to mind. Other than the volcano, there aren't any snowcaps, and overall the scenery is more subtle. The town itself doesn't feel as bustling as I remember Banff, either.

  3. You know Lucie, I was jsut thinking this picture looked like Banff, funny. Jeff does it look like Banff from there? The volcano looks daunting, the climb should be great fun, I am with Lucie, praying for gorgeous weather and major volcanic dormancy

  4. It's not a true replica of Banff but I find some visual resemblance to it: The side of the mountain facing down the town. At first blush it reminded me and Marcia of the town but Banff is and does look a lot busier. Will see what Dad says about it too. xo
