Where do you go in a foreign city to get that food product from home you are craving? If you're lucky, an American specialty food store. We found one in Paris called The Real McCoy, which sells American staples such as Double Stuff Oreos, Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper and, yes, French's Yellow Mustard. The prices are steep (€9 for Double Stuff Oreos!), but the American expat community here must really appreciate them, because they have two locations within a block of each other.
Almost all the processed American foodstuffs you'd ever want, plus the processed Australian/New Zealand foodstuffs (Marmite and Vegemite) you'd never want

Oh my goodness I thought you had taken a picture of my pantry minus the Marmite stuff! That is a very colorful American food supply display. I would have been so miserable for you had you not been able to find "real" French's Yellow Mustard. I would have flown to Paris, this time with a checked bag!, full with mustard and peanut butter enough to satisfy you a very long time. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. I saw it on one of your tweets, ah what we hold dear! Do we bring yellow mustard when we meet you?
ReplyDeleteOh the things we take for granted. Spread it on thick. Any way you slice it, you can cut the mustard. (what ever that means) I am glad to hear that you practice Safe Nutrition; you use condiments. I had to mustered up the courage to post this one. I was too yellow.
ReplyDeleteSee you soon
I don't know which of you comes up with the witty titles to some of these posts...but I just thought I'd let you both know that it is not unappreciated :-D
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, and envy it at the same time! I wish we had a store like this in Chile. Sometimes in the big supermarket (called Jumbo, ha ha) you can find some American things. But in the Real Macoy, you've got everything!!! I even saw Jiffy corn bread mix.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I miss the American staples. And yes, I remember that there wasn't French's mustard in France. Nathan and I once bought a mustard in France that looked like regular mustard, but it turned out to be extremely spicy! We put a lot on our sandwiches because we like mustard, and that first bite was painful. Oh it's so funny to remember now, but at the time we were hurting. :O
